I guess this is a one of a kind experience. Tried a couple of new things and badly failed. I mostly do portrait kinds of drawings and am thinking of doing a scenery. So, I decided to a portrait which has some nice background, to start with. I am not going to upload the original picture as it is going to only remind me how different this one has turned out from the original. For starters here is the rough sketch i did, and it still looks very much like the original.
Unfortunately, as and when i proceed the dissimilarity increases. The original picture is taken in bright sunlight and gives a brown shade to her hair, which is why the yellowish brown on the right side of her hair.
Adding tones to the hair, darkening it, giving subtle details to mouth and teeth. Blended the face. And now its started to look real, with little more work on the eyes. I am using Prisma colors to attain the darkness of hair. Applied color to the neck area, defining the two lines.
Some more detailing of the face. Used blacks from some local brands to achieve a lighter shade of black, for the mouth and highlighted the pupils. I keep adding color to the pupils as the drawing progresses, to make it stand out from other dark shades.
Now moving to the sweater. As the sweater is black and white in color, I have to keep coming back to the and the eyes to match the darkness of the blacks in the sweater.
This is when I realize that I am not going to be able to achieve the sun effect on the hair and go ahead to darken it completely and finishing the sweater. I have also done some of the the background.
At this point, I am so unhappy with the background that I contemplate leaving the background at this stage and just finish of detailing the picture. Here is the completed picture.
I ended working just a little more detailing, so the final work. All framed up and onto the wall. To be replaced by a better color drawing in the future.
